The Cardinals have a history of excellence as a franchise, as evidenced by their 11 World Series titles. They've had a great number of legendary players have their numbers retired in addition to Jackie Robinson's #42, which is retired league-wide. The Cardinals have a major rivalry with their NL Central foe Chicago Cubs, who play their home games at Wrigley Field, and many would argue that this is actually the greatest rivalry in the sport, and at the very least the National League. Another big rival of the Cardinals is their interstate competition, the Kansas City Royals, who call Kauffman Stadium their home park.

The Cardinals have a few major prospects down on the farm that should be ready to contribute to the big league club within the next year or so. Their top prospect is lefty starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore, their first round pick from 2018 that was one of the top prep pitching prospects in the entire draft. He should be a boon for the starting staff in 2022, but could also push to contribute in some fashion later in 2021. The Cards' other 2018 first-rounder is another excellent prospect. Third baseman Nolan Gorman is known for his prodigious power from the left side of the plate, and he should push for a call-up sometime in early 2022 or potentially late 2021.

St. Louis is coming off of two straight playoff appearances but has the talent to do more heading into 2021. They acquired superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado in the offseason and will now pair him with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt in the middle of the order, giving the Cardinals one of the best tandems of any lineup in the league. Their staff is led by ace Jack Flaherty, who should contend for the NL Cy Young this season. This team is for real and is as big a challenger to the Dodgers for the NL Pennant as any this year.

The manager of the Cardinals is Mike Shildt, who's entering his third full season as skipper in St. Louis after taking over for former manager Mike Matheny midseason in 2018. The 2019 MLB Manager of the Year has done a great job with the franchise thus far, leading the team to the playoffs in each of his first two full seasons, including an NLCS appearance in 2019. He's one of the most respected managers in the game and should have the Cardinals primed for success this season and for years to come.
