In addition to Jackie Robinson's #42, which is retired league-wide, the Texas Rangers have retired five total jersey numbers worn by legendary players for the franchise. Hall of Fame catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez had his number #7 retired by the Rangers, and seven-time All-Star infielder Michael Young had his #10 retired, as well. Adrian Beltre, who spent the last eight years of his career in Texas, where he was a three-time All-Star, has had his #29 retired by the team, and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, the MLB's all-time leader in strikeouts, has had his #34 retired by the Rangers. The franchise has also retired #26 for former Manager of the Year Johnny Oates, who led the club to their first postseason appearance in franchise history back in 1996.

The Rangers' biggest rivals are their fellow team from the Lone Star State, the Houston Astros, who play their home games at Minute Maid Park. A more long-standing rivalry the franchise has is one with the Oakland Athletics, who play their home games at RingCentral Coliseum and who have played within the AL West for a much longer period than the Astros have.

The Rangers have a couple of prospects in their farm system who should be ready to contribute in a major way in some fashion by the end of the 2021 season. 2019 first round pick Josh Jung, a third baseman, relies on both his hit and arm tools to profile as a solid starting player at the hot corner for years to come for the franchise, and fans should expect him up on the Major League roster sometime later this summer. Another top prospect of theirs is catcher Sam Huff, a huge backstop who should hit for major power with a good amount of strikeouts, to boot. If he can remain at the position, his hitting abilities and arm strength should make him among one of the most exciting regulars at the position over the next few years, and like Jung, he's expected to receive a call up to the big league club sometime later during this 2021 season.

The Rangers haven't made the playoffs since 2016 and are relying on the continued emergence of second baseman Nick Solak to help spark the offense, along with DH Willie Calhoun and outfielder Joey Gallo. The pitching has been burdensome over the years for this franchise, and they'll need arms at the top of the rotation like Kyle Gibson and Dane Dunning to have excellent seasons if they want a chance to compete in the tough and deep AL West. Crazier things have happened, and with two Wild Card spots, Texas could very well be playing in October this year.

The Rangers are managed by former MLB infielder Chris Woodward, who's entering his third year at the helm as skipper in Arlington. While the club hasn't yet made the playoffs under Woodward, he has the team poised for their first postseason berth since 2016 in 2021.
