Phoenix Suns Info

The Phoenix Suns entered the NBA as an expansion team, beginning play in the 1968-69 season. The Suns quickly built a title contender behind stars Paul Westphal, Alvan Adams, and Dick Van Arsdale, reaching the NBA Finals in 1975-76. After an extended down period marked by off-the-court issues and a drug scandal, the Suns turned things around in the late 1980s after adding Kevin Johnson in 1988. That move sparked a run of 13-straight playoff appearances. Buoyed by the acquisitions of Charles Barkley, Dan Majerle, and Jeff Hornacek, the Suns advanced to the 1992-93 Finals. After a period of mediocrity, coach Mike D’Antoni’s “seven seconds or less” system -- led by two-time MVP Steve Nash, Amar’e Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, and Boris Diaw -- helped the Suns reshape the NBA landscape, but failed to win an NBA title. After a rebuilding period, the Suns appeared in the 2020-21 NBA Finals, led by stars Devin Booker and Chris Paul.
