Founded as the Cougars in 1926 (they became the Falcons in 1930 and the Red Wings in 1932), Detroit is known as “Hockeytown,” owing to its status both as an “Original Six” franchise and the winners of 11 Stanley Cups, third-most in NHL history. Numerous legendary players have suited up for the Red Wings: the “Production Line” of Gordie Howe, Sid Abel, and Ted Lindsay; Terry Sawchuck; Red Kelly; Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom.
