The Red Wings have won 11 Stanley Cups, the most for a franchise based in the U.S. and the third-most overall. In the “Original Six” era, Detroit won seven championships: 1935-36 (beating the Toronto Maple Leafs), 1936-37 (New York Rangers), 1942-43 (Boston Bruins), 1949-50 (Rangers) and defeating the Montreal Canadiens in 1951-52, 1953-54, and 1954-55. In the post-expansion era, the Wings ended a long title drought in the 1990s, winning back-to-back Cups in 1996-97 (over the Philadelphia Flyers) and 1997-98 (Washington Capitals). Detroit added two more titles in the 2000s, winning in 2001-02 (over the Carolina Hurricanes) and 2007-08 (Pittsburgh Penguins).

The Red Wings’ have traditional rivalries with the other members of the “Original Six” era teams: the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Detroit later had a fierce rivalry with the Colorado Avalanche, born out of intense playoff meetings in the mid-1990s and early 2000s, and the San Jose Sharks, when both teams played in the Western Conference.

Detroit’s marquee addition was goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, a finalist for the Calder Trophy (given to the NHL rookie of the year), in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes. The Red Wings also added defenseman Nick Leddy and center Pius Suter. Forwards Tyler Bertuzzi, Robby Fabbri and Dylan Larkin look to add offensive punch. Detroit will also hope for progress from young players such as defensemen Moritz Seider and Filip Hronek and forwards Filip Zadina and Jakub Vrana.

Jeff Blashill enters his seventh season in Detroit. Blashill will look to steer the Red Wings to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Fans are not currently required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend games at Little Caesars Arena. Masks are also not currently required to be worn inside the arena.

Children under the age of 2 do not need a ticket, but must remain seated in the lap of an accompanying ticketed adult. Children aged 2 and older require a ticket for entry.
